Skip-Tooth chain has an extra drive link between each cutter, resulting in approximately one-third fewer cutting teeth. This reduces power demand and allows the chain to maintain higher RPM, making it well suited to longer guide bars. The increased spacing between cutters improves chip clearance under heavy cutting loads. Skip-Tooth chain is not recommended for short bars, where reduced cutter engagement can cause increased vibration or chain chatter.
Ripping chain is a standard chainsaw chain factory-sharpened to a 10-degree cutting angle. It is designed for cutting with the grain and is commonly used for milling, slabbing, and ripping posts. Compared with standard 30-degree cross-cut chain, it produces a smoother finish when ripping. Not recommended for cross-cutting.
